A Cultural Resource Survey of McDowell Mountain Park Drive, Maricopa County, Arizona: An Addendum to A Cultural Resource Survey and Archaeological Monitoring and Discovery Plan for the Salt River Project 69-kV Transmission Line Pole Replacement Between Rio Verde and Fountain Hills, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): Jodi Strohmayer
Year: 2005
Summary
Salt River Project (SRP) maintains a 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between the Glenbrook substation in Fountain Hills and the Rio Verde substation in the community of Rio Verde in Maricopa County, Arizona. The transmission line is currently supported by 30-year-old wooden poles, which generally follow the alignment of McDowell Mountain Road. In order to improve the overall safety and durability of the transmission line, SRP intends to replace all of the wooden poles with sturdier steel ones. As part of the transmission line replacement project, SRP will also provide power to the new visitor center at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The work will include three miles of trenching parallel to McDowell Mountain Park Drive for the installation of conduit lines, which will be tied into P-78 of the new transmission line along McDowell Mountain Road. In addition, the Park plans to relocate the ranger station and may construct restroom facilities near the competitive track parking area. The current project area is located in portions of Sections 15, 22, 23, 25, and 26 of Township 4 North, Range 6 East of the Gila and Salt River Base Line and Meridian, and is depicted on the 1974 Fort McDowell, Arizona USGS 7.5-minute topographic map (Figure 2). Project construction will occur on lands managed by the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department (MCPRD).
