A Cultural Resource Survey for an Electric Distribution Line to a Meteorological Station in the Salt River Project Fence Lake Coal Mine Transportation Corridor in Apache County, Arizona
Author(s): Richard Anduze
Year: 1995
Summary
Salt River Project (SRP) proposes to construct a meteorological station with an overhead electric distribution line to monitor atmospheric conditions east of the SRP Coronado Generating Station along the SRP Fence Lake Coal Mine Transportation Corridor (Figure 1). The U.S. Department of the Interior (USDI), Office of Surface Mining, is the overall lead agency for the Fence Lake Coal Mine Project and the USDI, Bureau of Land Management, Las Cruces District, Socorro Resource Area, is the lead agency for cultural resources.
SWCA, Inc., Environmental Consultants (SWCA), was contracted by SRP to conduct a cultural resource survey for those lands not previously inventoried. The transportation corridor has been previously surveyed by Dames and Moore (O’Brien and Dosh 1987). Field work was conducted by SWCA archaeologist Richard A. Anduze on December 15, 1994. The project centerline or a ROW boundary had been previously delineated with pink flagging tape by the SRP surveyors headed by Jay Zimmerman. An area of 27.3 acres was inventoried.
