Finding Aid, Saint Louis District Lock and Dam 24 Photographs 1936-1938 and 1936-2013

Summary

This collection is referred to as "Saint Louis District Lock and Dam 24 Photographs 1936-1938 and 1936-2013.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is one (1) linear inch. There is no final report associated with the document collection, as it does not belong to a typical archaeological investigation.

In total there were 25 black and white photographs in good condition, despite some yellowing, residue stains, and minor tears. One tear required repair with tissue mending tape, which was applied to the back of the image. All photographs were labeled with “Upper Mississippi River, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.” They also contained the associated contract number, photograph number, and caption. All information was recorded in the scanned asset key.

All photographs, except one, showed images of Lock 24. The other photograph shows 26 members of the office and inspection force, along with a dog. On the back of this photograph, someone has handwritten names of individuals on the front, middle, and back rows. Only 19 of the individuals are named. One name may belong to the dog depicted in the image. Names are listed on back of photograph number 4261 (asset 1002-0025): (Front Row) Everett O. Ewalt, Selee, William L. Cassels, Walter E. Westerfield, John C. Hayes, Captain E.C. Itschner, (Middle Row) Percy L. Jones, Ray P. O’Brien, William P. Zey, Charles M. Moxom, James E. Thomas, Ed Spoeler, (Back Row) Clete Barnett, Carl A. Banshack, Henry F. Rothwell, Thomas Kennedy, John G. Crockett, Harold C. Hall, Martin G. Tieman Jr.
