Letter from the Office of the Post Veterinarian to the Commanding General, Report of Proceedings of Board of Officers, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, Texas

Summary

This letter details the findings, considerations and recommendations of the Board of Officers that the Leon Springs Military Reservation has inadequate forage and water during the summer months to properly subsist the number of deer now present. It is believed the scarcity of water is of particular importance. That the Commanding General, or his designated representative, permit controlled hunting by military personnel located at Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis. It is suggested that this hunting be in accordance with the hunting laws of the state of Texas i.e. during the period 16 November to 31 December inclusive, deer must have at least one pronged horn and a limit of not over two deer per person per season. It is also suggested that a total kill not to exceed 150 deer be set for the year 1945 and future kills should be prescribed as conditions and experience might indicate.
