Response from F. Lawerence Oaks to Colonel Patrick, Project Review of Flagstone Sidewalks, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas
Author(s): F. Lawrence Oaks
Year: 1999
Summary
The Texas Historical Commission has received a submittal from Randolph Air Force Base to replace the historic flagstone sidewalks with concrete. After review, and because of the sidewalks' installation in the 1930s, the Commission sees the existing flagstone sidewalks as a contributor to the character of the district and their replacement with concrete does not meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. The standards require that where the severity of deterioration requires replacement, the new features match the old.
