Summary

This pamphlet provides guidance for implementation of the Army’s policy as prescribed in AR 200-4 Cultural Resources Management. Cultural resources are defined as historic properties as defined in the National Historic Preservation Act, cultural items as defined in the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, archeological resources as defined in the Archeological Resources Protection Act, sacred sites as defined in Executive Order 13007 to which access is provided under the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, and collections as defined in 36 CFR 79 Curation of Federally-Owned and Administered Collections. Requirements set forth in the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Archeological Resources Protection Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, 36 CFR 79, Executive Order (EO) 13007, and their implementing regulations define the Army’s compliance responsibilities for management of cultural resources. Regulations applicable to the Army’s management of cultural resources include those promulgated by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the National Park Service.
