Summary
This collection is referred to as "Intensive Survey of the Proposed Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake Project 1978-1979.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this investigation is one and a half (1.5) linear inches.
The documents date from 1976 to 1979. The investigation occurred primarily from 1978 to 1979, which explains the date of the project name. The range of dates includes administrative records. The documents for the collection were originally contained in acidic manila folders and were housed in an acidic cardboard box along with numerous collections from the Richard B. Russell Multiple Resource Area. Documents from this collection were grouped with like documents, but were not housed in chronological order. The documents were in good condition with minimal creases, and a few metal contaminants were removed. Personal information was removed from folder 1/2, including birth dates of archaeologists and spouses, home addresses, and home telephone numbers.
The final report entitled “The Report of the Intensive Survey of the Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake, Savannah River, Georgia and South Carolina” was found online on Georgia’s Natural, Archaeological, and Historic Resources Geographic Information System, (www.gnahrgis.org). The Georgia Archaeological Site File Report Number for the final report is 6690. A digital copy of the file was downloaded from the website and saved as part of the digital collection. The digital copy was assigned an asset number for tracking purposes, but a copy was not printed. A folder was created to house the information related to the document in a Report Records folder (Folder 5/2).
