Summary
This collection is referred to as “Clarks Hill Survey of 30 Tracts 1983.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is two (2) linear inches.
The documents date from 1971-1987. The investigation occurred primarily in 1983, which explains the date in the project name. The range of documents includes early background information and later correspondence. The documents were in fair condition and contained folds, tears, metal contaminants. The folds were smoothed using a bone tool, the tears were mended using acid-free tissue mending tape, and the metal contaminants were removed using a microspatula. The final report was originally bound with a plastic spiral, and this was removed during the processing. The collection was originally housed in acidic folders in an acidic box with other collections from the Strom Thurmond Lake area. The documents were originally lacking a discernible order.
The collection contained four oversized maps from the investigation area that required flattening and smoothing. There were numerous holes and tears in both maps, which required mending with acid free tissue mending tape. The documents were assigned to a Background Record folder (Folder 3/1) assigned scanned asset numbers, and removed to oversized storage.
The collection contained various photographic records from the field records. The materials included photographic negatives and prints. All of the negatives had corresponding photographic prints. The negatives and photographs were assigned to a Field Record folder, (Folder 5/1,) the materials were assigned scanned asset numbers, and the materials were removed for permanent storage in an archival binder.
