Summary

The Headquarters Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (HQ AFCEE) has tasked Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons) to conduct Phase I archaeological surveys at the Sagamore Hill Antenna Complex, Hamilton. Massachusetts, and at the Eagle Hill Antenna Facility, Ipswich, Massachusetts.

The overall project objective is to conduct a Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 10 acres of the Sagamore Hill facility considered to be archaeologically sensitive. To achieve this objective, the project will entail background archival research (completed June 2001); subsurface testing and site recordation; analysis of field data; technical report production; preliminary site evaluation per the criteria for listing on the National Register of HistoricPlaces (NRHP) for any identified archaeological sites; and management recommendations to assist HAFB for planning purposes.

The overall project objective is to conduct a Phase I archaeological survey of portions of the 65 acre Ipswich facility, eliminating areas containing excessive slope, buildings/parking lots, and disturbance, and focusing on the ridge top and to a lesser degree the connecting valley between Plover Hill and North Ridge. To achieve this objective, the project will entail background archival research (completed June 2001); subsurface testing and site recordation; analysis of field data; technical report production; preliminary site evaluation per the criteria for listing on the NRHP for any identified archaeological sites; and management recommendations to assist HAFB for planning purposes.
