Summary

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory (MITLL) proposes to demolish 10 buildings within the Katahdin Hill Area that contribute to the significance of the AFCRL Historic District (Nos. 1122, 1124, 1126, 1127, 1128, 1138, 1139, 1140, 1141, and 1142) for a proposed facilities replacement. One additional non-contributing building (No. 1123) within the Katahdin Hill Area will also be demolished. In compliance with Section 106, MIT LL and the USAF have consulted with the Massachusetts SHPO/MHC regarding the undertaking’s potential effects and, through further consultation, have entered into a Section 106 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the MASHPO for the resolution of adverse effects to these properties. The MOA includes a stipulation that the USAF will prepare archival historical documentation for the AFCRL Katahdin Hill area and nine contributing buildings (Nos. 1122, 1124, 1126, 1128, 1138, 1139, 1140, 1141, and 1142) prior to demolition. This report also includes photograph reference sheets, Section 106 Agreement, and Massachusetts Historical Commission Area Forms.
