Year: 1998
Summary
This project details an architectural investigation o f two buildings (Buildings 9001 and 9007) located on the Fort Dix Military Installation in Burlington County, New Jersey. Due to the need to close the wells under these two buildings in accordance with current New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection regulations and the lack of any foreseeable need for these presently unused structures, the U S. Army has proposed to demolish these buildings in order to access the wells. In accordance with regulations concerning the protection of cultural resources on the installation, the U.S. Army has required the contractors performing the capping of the wells to ensure that Buildings 9001 and 9007 are documented prior to demolition. Richard Grubb & Associates, Inc. was sub-contracted to examine the two buildings and make recommendations for a determination of eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and for Pinelands Designation.
Neither of the buildings is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, nor are they eligible for Pinelands Designation. The buildings did not play a significant role in the military or civilian history of the United States, nor did they play a significant role in the local history of Fort Dix. Neither building contains architectural or engineering significance As neither building is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places or for Pinclands Designation, the project is recommended for clearance and demolition of the buildings may proceed.
