Summary
This project is an architectural investigation of five buildings (Buildings 3270, 3502, 3503, 3504, and 3505) located on the Fort Dix Military Installation in Burlington County, New Jersey. Due to lack of foreseeable need for these presently unused buildings, the U S. Army proposes to demolish them In accordance with regulations concerning the protection of cultural resources on the installation, the U S Army has contracted to document these buildings prior to their demolition John Milner Associates, Inc. (JMA) was subcontracted by Foster Wheeler Environmental Corporation, prime contractor to Fort Dix. to examine the five buildings and to make recommendations concerning their eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
None of the buildings surveyed is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places or for Pinelands Designation. Each is a standard Army design used at many installations throughout the United States in the World War II period. Each lacks architectural significance. In addition, none of the buildings played a significant role in the military or civilian history of the United States, nor did any play significant roles in the history of Fort Dix or Burlington County. As none of these buildings is eligible for listing in the National Register of Histone Places or for Pinelands Designation, no further documentation of the buildings is recommended. Demolition may proceed.
