Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties, Archeological Site Survey, Basic Data Report, Site 18CH222, BPI_0081
Summary
This is a Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties Archeological Site Survey, Basic Data Report for the site T10, 18CH222. This site is located on the west side of Cedar Point Neck, c. 150m west of Blossom Point Road, about 1 mile north of the tip of Blossom Point. It lies on the east side of an old abandoned roadbed.
Based on previously conducted research, site 18CH222 is the remains of a late 19th- to early 20th-century tenant house. Surface features present at the site include a series of brick and stone footers, construction debris or rubble, and a light artifact scatter. Fieldwork conducted at the site produced little information of interpretive value.
This site was eliminated from testing in consultation with SHPO and ARL staff. A pedestrian walkover was conducted in 1998. Based on previously conducted research, Tetra Tech site visits (1998) prior to the start of fieldwork, and verbal discussions with Clara Bennett [ARL] and Beth Cole [MHT]), the site was identified as ineligible for listing on the NRHP. This conclusion is discussed in a memo dated 12 Oct 1998. The sites were identified as ineligible after the original SOW had already begun. No field or laboratory work was planned for these two sites. This decision was based on a lack of integrity (portions of the site have been bulldozed) and a lack of research potential. These sites are addressed in this report because at the time of the Scope of Work, they had been identified by the SHPO as requiring Phase II excavations.
