Year: 2018
Summary
The Pine Island Site Complex (8LL33), located on Pine Island along the southwestern Gulf Coast of Florida, includes a group of related sites. This complex is located within a large estuarine system comprising Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, and San Carlos Bay. Two prominent midden-mound complexes, Brown’s Complex and Randell Complex, include anthropogenic water features. Three sediment samples collected from within lightning whelks obtained from a context dating to approximately AD 1200–1300 were submitted for pollen analysis to identify past vegetation.
