Finding Aid I, Demonstration Erosion Control Six Watersheds Phase I/II
Part of the Demonstration Erosion Control Six Watersheds Phase I/II project

Summary
The MCX-CMAC utilizes the standard archival practice of “unique naming” of collections. The purpose of this is to avoid redundant and confusing collection names commonly found with archaeological investigations. Therefore, this collection is referred to as "Demonstration Erosion Control, Six Watersheds, Phase I.” In the original documentation, this project is also referred to as DEC I. This naming practice is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folder titles, and box labels. The linear extent of this collection is seven (7) inches. Demonstration Erosion Control, Six Watersheds, Phase I is the first in a series of three investigations conducted in central Mississippi. The field work for this phase began in September 1985. No stand-alone report was produced for this investigation. Please refer to Cultural Resource Studies in Nine Watersheds, Demonstration Erosion Control Project, Yazoo Basin, Mississippi. The documentation for Phase I was intermixed with that belonging to Phase II and Phase III. The processing archivist sifted through approximately eight linear feet of documentation, pulling materials that belonged with the Phase I collection. There is the possibility that, due to unlabeled and undated documentation, some material from Phase I was not identified during this process. The researcher should be aware of this when researching the Demonstration Erosion Control Projects.
This collection contained legal-sized documents that were too large to be placed in letter sized folders. All legal-sized documents were removed and placed into appropriate storage. Their removal was noted in three places; the folder from which they were removed, the folder to which they were removed, and the finding aid. A large number of 15 x 11 form-feed computer print outs were also removed to appropriate storage. They had been folded and placed into letter-sized manila folders. These print-outs were removed, flattened and placed in oversized storage. When small pieces of paper were removed from these larger items, they were placed into small 2 or 4 mil zip top bags and labeled with the number of the item with which they were associated.
The collection of documents for Demonstration Erosion Control, Six Watersheds, Phase II contains a group of documents that should be consulted if Phase I is being researched. The Odd-Sized Records Series in Demonstration Erosion Control, Six Watersheds, Phase II contains site cards that pertain to Phase I as well.
