Summary

This is an abstract from the "Re-discovering the Archaeology Past and Future at Fort Ticonderoga" session, at the 2019 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

Fort Ticonderoga’s 18th Century Tool Collection represents artifacts recovered from the site of Fort Ticonderoga over the course of the 20th and 21st  centuries. These tools reflect the occupation of the complex by French, Native American, British, Continental, and German forces from roughly 1755 to 1781. It is one of the largest collections of its kind and contains examples of many tool types and patterns used by military forces in North America. In the spring of 2018 Conservators from the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum (LCMM) conducted an artifact condition assessment of this collection of tools.  This paper will present the results of this effort and highlight the potential of this collection for future research, analysis, and interpretation.
