Summary

This study builds upon previous Native American cultural resource consultation studies conducted on the Nevada Test Site. Seventeen American Indian tribes having traditional prehistoric or historic ties to lands within and in the vicinity of the NTS study area (Stoffle, Olmsted, and Evans 1988) were invited to participate in this study. Their participation was in keeping with a Native American consultation process that has been developed over a period of seventeen years and has involved more than sixty tribes. The history and cultural implications of this consultation plan was published by Stoffle and Evans (1990). The version of this consultation plan that was specially adapted to this project was published and distributed to the involved tribes as part of NTS American Indian Religious Freedom Act Compliance Program, Complying with AIRFA: A Literature Review and Evaluation (Pippin ed. 1991).
