An Intensive Cultural Resources Survey of 20 Target Complexes on the Nevada Test and Training Range, Nye County, Nevada
Summary
The U.S. Air Force (Air Force) proposes to construct and operate a series of target complexes at three locations in the North Range of the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) to simulate conditions in mountainous terrain: 1) 10 Limestone Ridge sites between Limestone Ridge and the Belted Range, 2) nine Saucer Mesa sites located just east of Saucer Mesa, and 3) a “no-drop” site along an existing road north of Cliff Springs within the Belted Range.
Based on the existing data and records search it is anticipated that there is a high potential for lithic scatters and historic sites related to mining activity. Lithic scatters may represent core reduction and quarrying of raw lithic material. There is a high potential for mining related sites both at Limestone Ridge and Saucer Mesa. Mining test pits, cairns, and historic trash piles may represent temporary mining campsites related to prospecting in the area.
