Frenchman Flat Seismic Survey: Range 64

Part of the Nellis Air Force Base (DRAFT) project

Author(s): Harold Drollinger

Year: 2001

Summary

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) received a request from the National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Operations Office (NNSA/NV) to conduct a Class III cultural resources reconnaissance of proposed seismic lines in Frenchman Flat on the Nevada Test Site (NTS) and the Nellis Air Force Range (NAFR), Nye County, Nevada. The purpose of the seismic study is to gather information of the geology beneath the underground nuclear testing areas for the verification and refinement of current computer models for groundwater flow and contaminant migration. Two series of parallel lines are proposed for the study, entailing sound waves to be sent from the surface downward from a series of set points along equally-spaced and parallel source lines and measured by ground sensors or geophones at a separate set of points along receiver lines also of equal distance and parallel to one another.
