A Class III Cultural Resources Inventory of the Proposed Underground Test Area ER-EC-14 Well Pad and Access Road, Range EC South, Nevada Test and Training Range, Nye County, Nevada
Summary
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) received a request from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office (NNSA/NSO) to conduct a Class III cultural resources inventory of the proposed Underground Test Area EREC- 14 Well Pad and Access Road, Range EC South, Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), Nye County, Nevada (Figures 1-2). On August 10 and 12, 2009, DRI archaeologists surveyed the proposed well pad and access road and found two sites and eleven isolated artifacts. Site 26NY13698 is a lithic artifact scatter that consists of 12 flakes and site 26NY13699 is a lithicartifact scatter that consists of 36 flakes. Sites 26NY13698 and 26NY13699 do not meet the criteria for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). DRI recommends that the project proceed as planned as long as all activities remain within the surveyed area.
