Summary

The Area II survey conducted by SWCA resulted in the documentation of 50 archaeological sites and 78 isolated finds. Sixteen of the archaeological sites were newly discovered, and of the 44 previously documented sites, 33 were found and reinvestigated. The archaeological sites included 15 prehistoric/ethnographic sites associated with Native Americans, 32 historic sites potentially associated with Euro‐Americans, and 3 multi‐component sites with prehistoric/ethnohistoric and historic components. The prehistoric/ethnohistoric sites and components were composed of 8 lithic quarry and reduction sites, 6 lithic scatters, 1 lithic scatter/possible quarry site, 3 rock shelters, and 1 milling station. The historic sites and components included 4 transportation sites (3 roads and 1 railroad), 3 military refuse scatters, 4 mining‐related sites, 22 refuse scatters, and 2 telecommunication sites. The isolated finds comprise 18 prehistoric/ethnohistoric isolates and 65 historic isolates.
