Summary

From 1999 through 2001, Nellis Air Force Base (AFB) affected Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) consultation with 31 tribally designated cultural experts representing 16 tribes culturally affiliated to federal lands managed by the Department of Defense (DoD) in central and southern Nevada. Of the 1,941 artifacts comprising the Nellis AFB artifact collection, NAGPRA tribal consultants selected 147 objects for repatriation (Arnold 2003). These artifacts were collected between 1940 and 1999 from 14 sites and five isolate locations on the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR). Two isolate artifacts selected for repatriation were collected from Indian Springs Valley, one from Three Lakes Valley, one from Gold Flat, and one from Stonewall Flat.
