Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "East Carolina University Partnerships and Innovation with Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency" , at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
This paper details the development of the Task Force Dagger Foundation’s partnership with East Carolina University and the Department of Defense MIA/POW Accounting Agency (DPAA). It outlines the vision these leaders forged in creating a joint university and special operations veteran team that eventually led to a relationship with DPAA and conducting joint operations in support of our government’s mission to bring home those who have died in the defense of our country and whose bodies were not recovered at the time of loss.
The journey from these encounters, the development of what was to become the Joint Recovery Team, and the impact that this program is having as a therapeutic tool with wounded special operations service members and their recovery will be covered in depth.
