Summary

From Moy 1 through 5, 2006, New South Associates (NSA) conducted a Phase 1 Cultural Resource Assessment Survey Phase 1 Cultural Resource Assessment Survey of the proposed location for the NRO Substation at Cope Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS).This study included background research and a field phase of intensive shovel testing. The background research was conducted to gain on understanding of environmental and cultural aspects of the project area and to aid in predicting the nature, location, and potential significance of cultural resources in the vicinity. Field methods included systematic shovel testing and ground surface inspection in the location proposed for the substation, with additional tests dug at specific points proposed for the installation of new FP&l utility poles and associated guy wires. To summarize results, all shovel tests dug in the proposed substation tract and the pole locations were negative for cultural remains.
