Summary

In 2005, the 45th Space Wing (45 SW) proposed to reuse the fonner Launch Complex 21/22 storage building (Facility 5959) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), Florida. The reuse was reviewed by Compliance Review, Florida Division of Historical Resources, Tallahassee, Florida. The State Historic Preservation Office issued a concurrence letter under the stipulation the building was documented with a Florida State Master Site File Historic Structures form. LC 21 /22 is significant due to its association with early missile and rocket development for the United States military. These developments were instrumental in the development of the space program as well. For this reason, LC 21/22 and the associated buildings are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. This complex stands alone in being NRHP eligible but it also contributes to the proposed NHL district proposed by the National Park Service.
