Determination of Eligibility for Launch Complex 25/29, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Brevard County, Florida

Author(s): Thomas E. Penders

Year: 2010

Summary

Upon review of several documents pertaining to cultural resources at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station it was determined that an adequate assessment had not been conducted to determine if the launch complex and/or the facilities within were eligible for the National Register of HIstoric Places. The Civil Engineering Squadron/Environmental and Natural Resources Division (CES/CEAN), 45th Space Wing (45SW) conducted a survey in 2010 to determine if the complexes were eligible based upon their historic use. Based on the research conducted, Launch Complex 25/29 is an important resource due to its direct role in the relationship to the Cold War. LC 25/29 has a significant if not prominent role in the development of the submarine launched ballistic missile programs from its earliest inception with the Polaris through the Trident.
