Summary

Upon review of several documents pertaining to cultural resources at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) it was determined that an adequate assessment had not been conducted to determine if Facility 70000-Solid Motor Assembly Building (SMAB) is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The Civil Engineering Squadron/Environmental and Natural Assets Division (CES/CEAN), 45th Space Wing (45 SW) conducted a survey in April and May 2013 to determine if the building was eligible based upon its historic use. Based on the research, The Solid Motor Assembly Building is an important resource due to its relationship to the Cold War. The SMAB is eligible for listing on the national Register of Historic Places under Criteria A, C and D. As such is has been incorporated into the Integrated Cultural Resource Management Plan and CCAFS General Plan for preservation.
