Part of the 611th Air Support Group Resources project

Author(s): 15th Civil Engineering Squadron

Year: 2008

Summary

This document contains the results of a damage assessment of the Wake Island National Historic Landmark conducted during May and June 2007. Wake Atoll is operated by the 15th Airlift Wing, Hickam Air Force Base, O’ahu Island, Hawai‘i. The current personnel population of approximately 117 would provide minimal security, maintenance, fire protection, repair of facilities damaged by Super Typhoon Ioke, and support to other federal agencies.

Prominent landmark features, most of which are defensive fortifications, are still in relatively fair or good condition. Inland coral-lined trenches and rifle pits on Wilkes Island are still in a good state of repair. Much of Wake Island National Historic Landmark remains intact.
