An Artifacts Coordinator in Egypt: COVID-19, Collections Management, and Opening a Museum in the Developing World
Author(s): Alasdair Brooks

Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Collections Management in the Age of COVID-19" , at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
COVID-19 has had an inevitable impact on the management of artifact collections in both museum and archaeology settings around the world. This is as true of developing countries such as Egypt as it is in North America, Europe, or Australasia. Through a combination of professional perspective and informal personal anecdote, the impact of COVID-19 on preparing a major new archaeology museum in Egypt is explored through the viewpoint of one individual who was particularly vulnerable due to an immunosuppressing disability. While not historical archaeology in focus, it is hoped that the unusual geographical viewpoint will help add some broader context to historical archaeology-focused discussions of the challenges we have all faced.
