Remote Control: Collections Intake, Output & Policy During The Time Of Covid At The Ontario Heritage Trust

Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Collections Management in the Age of COVID-19" , at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
Our focus on managing the Trust's provincially significant archaeological collections since March 2020 has been via remote access until the province reached Stage 3 of its re-opening in August. Remote access created new opportunities to focus on policy development, discussions and development of an OPAC for our website with our software providers, planning related to the transfer of new collections to the Trust as well as transfers external from the Trust to museums, risk preparedness research and protocol development as well as having a collections intern conducting work almost entirely remotely during this time. As our province began re-opening in August, we began to slowly conduct hands-on work on an occassional basis following strict Covid-19 protocol and procedures within our agency. We will discuss the challenges of remote work completely reliant on technology and the successes achieved during months of working in this manner.
