Author(s): Dave Ball
Year: 2021
Summary
This is a forum/panel proposal presented at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
At the 2020 SHA Annual Conference in Boston, the SHA and ACUA UNESCO Committees co-chaired a panel discussion to address how best to incorporate cultural heritage (CH) into the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (DOS), an initiative that promotes a common framework for supporting stakeholders in studying and assessing the health of the world’s oceans. ACUA Grad Student Representatives also co-chaired a panel discussion on Women and People of Color in Underwater Archaeology. For the 2021 online Conference, the SHA and ACUA UNESCO Committees will team up with Ocean Decade Heritage Network (ODHN) to bring together a panel of CH practitioners to further advance ideas that support the DOS Societal Outcomes. In this context, the panel will specifically address issues on inclusion of BIPOC and other under-represented communities in a global perspective of ocean sciences.
