The Challenges of Vulnerable Populations During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Summary
This is a poster submission presented at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
Ethnographic methods can be used to observe and document the ways in which vulnerable populations are being affected by Covid-19. The homeless, elderly, and disabled are particularly susceptible to this highly contagious disease because of dependency of others, lack of resources, and the inability to fully grasp the severity of the disease. How individuals cope, such as going outside or to how they prevent the spread of Covid-19 during March 2020 to the present does not take away from their challenges. Looking at these circumstances from an anthropological perspective can allow for different questions to blossom, such as what challenges are being faced by these vulnerable populations and are, they influenced by coping and prevention strategies? In the research poster, I will present these results from interview, surveys, and participant observation, which may reveal the change in human behavior and norms in vulnerable populations.
