Inventory and Evaluation: Utopia Creek Mining District (MLZ-140), Alaska

Summary

Indian Mountain Long Range Radar Site (LRRS) is part of the Alaska Radar System (ARS), which currently consists of 15 active Long Range Radar Sites (LRRS) throughout Alaska. The ARS is an essential component of North America's air defense. Prior to that in the 20th century, it was in the location of a placer mining operation along Utopia Creek. The following document presents the results of the inventory and evaluation of the Utopia Creek Mining District. In the course of the inventory, thirteen objects/features were recorded within the Utopia Creek Mining District. None of the recorded objects/features were considered individually eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nor were they considered significant enough, collectively, as a historic district. Based on results presented in this report, Utopia Creek Mining District (MLZ-140) was determined not eligible for the NRHP.
