NRHP Eligibility Evaluation of Thirteen Archaeological Sties on Melrose Air Force Range, Roosevelt County, New Mexico

Summary

Between December 9 and December 12, 2019, Versar Inc. evaluated the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of 12 previously recorded archaeological sites on Melrose Air Force Range (MAFR), Roosevelt County, New Mexico. The original contract included 13 sites: 10 prehistoric sites, two historic artifact scatters, and one historic gravesite; however, one site (LA 66375) could not be evaluated due to restricted access. Of the sites meeting modern site criteria (n=5), two sites (LA 83733 and LA 133071) are recommended eligible for inclusion in the NRHP under Criterion D. The remaining three sites (LA 57474, LA 64788, and LA 87371) were not eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. Eight sites (M117, LA 57471, LA 57472, LA 66370, LA 66372, LA 66376, LA 87373) were not located and are presumed to be buried, mis-plotted, or destroyed.
