ROI017, Archaeological Investigations At The Peru Industrial Park

Summary

An archaeological field reconnaissance for a proposed industrial park north of Peru, Indiana, yielded evidence of five archaeological sites which may meet criteria for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. At least one of these sites has yielded evidence of occupation substantially (56") below the soil surface. Due to the unique physiographic setting of these sites, their potential for subsurface features, and current evidence of buried cultural deposits in the area, it has been recommended that this project not be allowed to proceed until a subsurface investigation can be completed to determine the extent of subsurface deposits.
