Summary

This document is a letter reporting the results of an Archaeological Study Supporting the Repair of Two Culverts on Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). The project will entail reinforcing the existing culvert structures that serve to divert storm runoff under the access roads. On October 8, 2021, Applied EarthWorks’ field supervisor and two field technicians conducted a pedestrian survey and excavated 11 shovel test pits to assess whether surface or subsurface archaeological deposits exist within the project areas. The VSFB cultural resources manager provided maps depicting shovel test pit locations. Native American monitoring was provided by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and unexploded ordnance monitoring was provided by Pennmax. The surface survey did not reveal any prehistoric or historical remains.
