Summary

In the period between July 2004 and November of 2005, engineering-environmental Management, Inc. (e2M) conducted a cultural resources update and testing project of 16 sites at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) to determine their eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The results of the testing and evaluation for 16 sites are documented in this report. Five of the sites are located on lands administered by the Department of Defense (DoD) (LA 47905, LA 108013, LA 108017, LA 108018, and LA 108025). The other 11 sites are on Cibola National Forest Lands withdrawn to Kirtland Air Force Base (LA 72452/AR-03-03-05-171, LA 81708/AR-03-03-05-255, LA 81709/AR-03-03-05-256, LA 81726/AR-03-03-05-273, LA 81727/AR-03-03-05-274, LA 88504/AR-03-03-05-292, LA 101248/AR-03-03-05-381, LA 138030/AR-03-03-05-520, LA 142140/AR-03-03-05-645, LA 142142/AR-03-03-05-647, and LA 142143/AR-03-03-05-648).

Six of the sites are recommended eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), under Criterion D. This includes five prehistoric sites located on Cibola National Forest lands withdrawn to the Department of Defense (DoD) and a multicomponent site located on lands administered by Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).
