Summary

An archaeological survey of approximately 1.1 acres of property situated within Area I, Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB), Bernalillo County, New Mexico, yielded no cultural resources. The area surveyed is located on the western piedmont of the Manzano Mountains, south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The survey was conducted prior to construction of a proposed communication switch building. Although the communication switch building will result in disturbance of a very small portion of the 1.1-acre area, the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) personnel requested that the entire area be surveyed at this time.

No significant cultural artifacts or features were located during this cultural resources inventory. The area has been greatly disturbed by the previous construction of a railroad spur. The areas situated on either side of the spur have previously been bladed and graveled and are currently devoid of vegetation. Due the lack of cultural resources and the previous disturbance, cultural resource clearance is recommended for the construction projects scheduled within the 1.1 acre survey area.
