Summary
Cultural resource surveys for approximately 7.34 acres of property situated within Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB), Bernalillo County, New Mexico, yielded no significant cultural resources. The areas surveyed include the two drill locales with substantial buffer zones. As there are currently dirt roads providing access to the drill site buffer zones, no access routes were surveyed.
The results of this survey concur with previous Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) cultural resource inventories conducted in 1981. No archaeological sites were located within the proposed drill site locations during these previous inventories. All CAS observed isolated occurrences (IO's) were collected.
Two isolated occurrences (IO's) were documented during this cultural resource inventory. A lard bucket (IO No. l) was recorded from Drill Location No.3 and a purple glass bottle (IO No.2) was documented from Drill Location No. 4. These two isolated occurrences are no longer thought to be potentially significant, however, as all important information has been recovered through field recordation. For this reason these artifacts are no longer thought to be eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places. Clearance is recommended.
