Summary

During April 1993, Advanced Sciences, Inc. conducted a cultural resource survey of the proposed extension of the Exterior Sensor Test Field for the Intrusion Detection Systems Technology Department (IDST) at Sandia National Laboratories/New Mexico (SNL/NM). This project was performed on land owned by Kirtland Air Force Base. The total project area covered by this survey is 73 acres (29.2 hectares). This report discusses the reconnaissance performed for the project, inclusive of a 50 foot ( 15 meter) buffer area around the perimeter of the project area.

The project area has undergone extensive construction and maintenance disturbance associated with the current 13.94 acre (5.57 ha) facility at the existing Intrusion Detection Systems Technology Department (IDST) sensor test field.

No prehistoric or historic cultural resources were located by this inspection. It is felt that no significant cultural artifacts, features, or structures qualifying under National Register of Historic Places Criterion D are present within the inspected area.

It is recommended that cultural resource clearance be granted for this project as defined within this report.
