Summary
Sandia National Laboratories personnel conducted an intensive (100 percent) cultural resource survey on March 22, 2018. The project required a block survey of multiple 15 m (50 ft) transects for a total surveyed area of 0.44 ha (1.08 ac), which included an additional 30 m (100 ft) buffer. The project area is on lands withdrawn from the Cibola National Forest Service.
One previously recorded site was updated. LA 101248 (AR 03-03-05-381) is a small prehistoric artifact scatter with one feature that tentatively dates to Ancestral Puebloan: Coalition (AD 1200 to 1325) for a temporal and cultural affiliation. The site is recommended as undetermined for eligibility for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The monitoring of all construction around the site is recommended and avoidance of the site. This undertaking complies with the provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended, and applicable regulations. This report is consistent with applicable federal and state standards for cultural resource management.
In the event that cultural resource materials are uncovered during construction or earth-disturbing activities, work in the area should cease immediately and the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Sandia Field Office (SFO), the Forest Service, and State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will be notified. The Department of Energy (DOE), Forest Service, and State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will determine the necessary steps to evaluate, document, protect, or remove the material or remains, in compliance with the law.
