Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Paper / Report Submission (General Sessions)" , at the 2022 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
For three decades now we have been noticing the presence of plastic in Portuguese beaches, a mixture of things forgotten by seasonal visitors and plastics that are adrift until washed ashore. While most archaeologists would only consider it an archaeological commodity once it is deposited in the beach we aim to go further and defend that plastics adrift, the ones that may never reach land, can also be considered as archaeological materials, artefacts of identity, a reflex of globalization, part of something we wish to define as “the unique context” where time and space are seen in a non-traditional way.
