In archaeological research, often the most ignored subjects are children. This paper discusses children related artifacts, found at 2925 Richmond Street in Philadelphia, PA, including but not limited to children’s ceramic wares, medicine bottles, and toys. This paper strives to answer the question of what childhood was like in Philadelphia during the 19th century for the families living at 2925 Richmond Street and the parenting methods that governed those childhoods. This research endeavors to make children visible in the archaeological record and to explain the cultural lessons that parents instilled in their children through the consumer choice of certain goods.
