Summary

This is an abstract from the session entitled "The World Turned Upside Down: Revisiting the Archaeology of the American Revolution" , at the 2022 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

Beginning in 2019, the Northeast Archeological Resources Program (NARP), in conjunction with Saratoga National Historical Park (SARA), American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR), Advanced Metal Detecting for the Archaeologist (AMDA) and other partners began a two year program of study on both the eastern and western Barber Wheatfields. It was here that the second battle for Saratoga (colloquially known at the Battle for Bemis Heights) began. After completing two seasons worth of research (COVID wiped out our 2020 season), the archeological work has unearthed compelling information about the intensity and the conduct of the battle. This paper will summarize the results of the 2019 and 2021 seasons.
