Archaeological Investigations for Proposed Water Line, Tennessee Army National Guard, at Arnold Air Force Base

Summary

Summary of Phase I archaeological survey project initiated to identify and evaluate the potential impact on cultural resources from construction of a proposed water line. Investigations included a review of the existing site records, visual inspection and shovel testing. The records search indicated three sites are located within one mile of the project area but none were adversely impacted by the present undertaking. Visual inspection showed that the project area has been subjected to disturbance from previous road and range construction in the past, mainly from the development and use of the area in the Camp Forrest era but continuing with improvements to Rifle Range Road to the present. No prehistoric cultural material of any kind was observed during visual inspection of the bare ground or in shovel tests. Incidental recent historic trash was observed but not collected. No archaeological sites were recorded as a result of this investigation. The area is recommended cleared from a cultural resources perspective.
