Archaeological Investigations for Proposed Recovery Well Replacement at Arnold Air Force Base

Author(s): Shawn Chapman

Year: 2008

Summary

Summary report of a phase I archaeological survey project that was initiated to identify and evaluate the potential impact on cultural resources from the installation of a new recovery well in solid waste management unit 8 southeast of the existing recovery well No. 4. Investigations included a review of the existing site records, visual inspection and shovel testing. The records search indicated six sites are located within one mile of the project area but none were impacted by the undertaking. Visual inspection showed that the project area has been subjected to disturbance from previous impacts, mainly from the development and use of the area in the Camp Forrest era. No prehistoric or historic cultural material of any kind was observed during visual inspection of the bare ground or in shovel tests. No archaeological sites were recorded as a result of this investigation and the area. The area is recommended cleared from a cultural resources perspective.
