Summary
The Department of Defense, as a federal landholding agency, is responsible for the management of archaeological and historical resources recovered from lands under its management. As mandated by federal laws, agencies are required to ensure that all archaeological materials and associated records are properly curated to the standards specified in 36 CFR Part 79.
In the 1990s, the Department of Defense initiated a national curation program to determine the size, location, and condition of its archaeological materials and associated records. This report summarizes the condition of various installations' collections and plan for sorting and rehousing of collections.
