Summary

This document is a Section 106 letter from the California State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to Vandenberg Air Force Base (Vandenberg AFB) regarding the Construction of a Flame Trench Catchment Area at Space Launch Complex-4 East. This letter is in response to the transmittal letter of October 17, 2017, initially opening consultation for the project. The letter briefly reiterates information provided in the initial transmittal letter from Vandenberg AFB, including project activities associated with the project and the cultural resource effort that was performed in support of the Section 106 process. The letter also reiterates that the United States Air Force and SHPO previously consulted on and agreed that CA-SBA-537/1816 is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion D (USAF870302A and USAF880104A). The letter specifically provides concurrence on the following: 1) the identification and delineation of the area of potential effect (APE) and 2) a Finding of No Historic Properties Affected as appropriate for the proposed undertaking. The letter also provides concurrence for the determination that CA-SBA-537-1816 does not extend into the APE and that there are no cultural resources located within the APE.
