Summary
This plan is presented as three volumes. Volume 1 (prehistoric resources) and Volume 2 (historic resources) are overviews that describe and synthesize existing knowledge. They establish the contexts and framework for understanding and evaluating cultural resources specific to the Base and region. Volume 3 provides the management approaches for both prehistoric and historic period resources.
This volume is an overview of the prehistoric cultural resources at Edwards Air Force Base, California. It includes a discussion of the Base's natural setting, including possible paleoclimatic conditions, and cultural setting. The results of Phase II evaluations of prehistoric sites conducted on Base and off Base in the Antelope Valley are summarized, and an overview and analysis of artifacts recovered on Base and off Base in the Antelope Valley are provided. This report also develops prehistoric contexts and includes research questions and data needs to guide future archaeological research on Base.
