Historic Building Inventory and Evaluation of Space Launch Complexes 37, 40, 41, and 46 Cape Canaveral Space Force Station Brevard County, Florida

Summary

Argonne National Laboratory conducted a historic building inventory and evaluation on behalf of the United States Air Force at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station located in Brevard County, Florida. The evaluation aids Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in managing the historic properties under its jurisdiction as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The inventory and evaluation included four launch complexes built during the Cold War Era, and 72 extant facilities located within them. The launch complexes and facilities support activities of the United States Space Program and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Space Launch Complexes 37, 40, 41, 46, and the facilities were evaluated for historical significance and eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The launch complexes and facilities were examined through historical research and an on-site field survey in February 2020. Based upon the results of the study, one facility, Facility 33000 (8BR02790) known as the blockhouse at Space Launch Complex 37, is recommended eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Space Launch Complexes 37, 40, 41, 46 and the remaining 71 facilities are recommended not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
